The lust for glory and fortune are as old as the origins of mankind. Obsession, unbridled, can result in the destruction of the individual and the people they love. Toro - The Naked Bull is such a tale, featuring the spectacle of Corrida or bullfighting as a backdrop set in Spain around the year 1950. Luis Montoya, oldest of the Famed Montoya Bullfighting Family is dashing with a lust for power and women. Soon he is to be anointed “greatest" Matador adored by the residents of Villa de Candelaria and much of Europe. He is handsome, charismatic, brash and driven, thirsty for fame and the spoils which accompany it. Luis’ relentless quest for power comes at the expense of anything or anyone. Luis is also the object of Gabriella’s heart. She is the untouched, beautiful daughter of one of the town’s hardest working toolmakers, Juan Trujillo. The story is set in Spain, in the early1950’s, when bullfighting was a cultural tradition to almost mythical proportions. Its people love and admire Matadors and the trappings and pageantry of the bullfight. For some, Matador’s are defined for their bravery and defiance of death. Bulls (toros) are also held in great regard for their strength, spirit, ferocity and courage. The juxtaposition between the courage and skills required to address and defeat a 1600 pound raging bull, against the terror of being impaled to death by a goring is a metaphor for life in TORO – The Naked Bull. The spectacle of Corrida - bullfighting with its pageantry, protocols, power, fame, bravery, and romantic ideal makes for a powerful saga. Luis is on the precipice of becoming a nationally recognized, matador. He thinks nothing of destroying the bulls and has no place for people or circumstances standing in his way. His pretext for the love of Gabriella is a game to Luis. He lusts for women, wealth and fame. He has mastered many machinations which help him to satisfy his whims and carnal appetites. Simone, Luis’ younger brother is an honorable figure and an accomplished Matador in his own right. He is often troubled by his calling as a Matador, but carries on the Montoya family tradition of bullfighting anyway. It is his duty to perform as a matador and manage the Montoya Ranchero. Unlike Luis, Simone has tremendous respect and admiration for the toros and he has genuine love for his fiancée Melissa, his family and his Villa. Melissa is a skilled Flamenco Dancer and her strong personality and sagacious insights will have a deep influence on Simone and the Montoyas. Santiago, younger brother to Luis and Simone is a tormented man. In his mind he was deprived the opportunity to become a Matador because of injuries sustained in the bull ring. His injuries preclude him from becoming a famous matador and he secretly blames Luis. During a live practice session, Luis hesitated in distracting the toro, causing the furious bull to gore Santiago severely. The wounds ended his career as a matador and what is left is a man with an obvious limp, filled with shame and resentment. Philipe is the youngest Montoya brother and dreams of becoming a great matador like his older brothers Simone and especially Luis. Philipe is a dedicated and loyal brother, untouched by the ravages of life. He sees the world through a prism of innocence and wonder. What will he do when confronted with the naked specter of forging his own legacy? The brothers will encounter many trials and tribulations outside and inside the family. Their internal struggles and external forces will challenge, torment, provoke and propel the brother’s and the people in their orbit forever. Ultimately, Luis will do whatever it takes to achieve power and fame, including the destruction of family, the people around him and perhaps, himself?
